Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow to Crossover Next Season

On a conference call with the press this morning, CW head Mark Pedowitz confirmed that all four of their Greg Berlanti-produced DC series will join up for one big story. Said Pedowitz, "Just imagine what our superhero crossover episode is going to look like come December," while also referring to the crossover as "the biggest one ever."

Pedowitz also said he felt Supergirl should have been a CW series from the start.

"The fact it's now moved to The CW, where it should have been in the first place, I don't think it will have a big impact on the tone," he said of Supergirl's network shift.

DC Films Becomes Separate Warner Bros. Division Stop Calling it the DCEU it's the DCFU

The fallout from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice continues to ripple through Warner Bros.
The Burbank-based studio is making changes to the way it handles its DC Entertainment-centered films, giving oversight of the feature projects to a pair of executives and creating a dedicated division for the films. Current executive vp Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, DC's chief content officer who successfully launched the comics label's foray into television, will co-run DC Films, according to multiple sources.

Berg was already working on BvS, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Justice League. He also is a conduit to Ben Affleck, having worked with the actor-filmmaker on Argo and Live by Night, the crime thriller Affleck recently wrapped as director, writer and star for the studio.

Comics writer-turned-exec Johns, meanwhile, was key in working with showrunner Greg Berlanti on the ascension of superhero shows such as Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl and is the writer behind DC's upcoming Rebirth, the publishing side's reboot of its titles that will play out over the summer months. He is not leaving DC, according to sources, but adding film to his portfolio. Johns will still report to DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson, while Berg will report to Silverman.

With Berg and Johns, Warner Bros. is attempting to unify the disparate elements of the DC movies with a seasoned film exec and a comics veteran that together can hopefully emulate the way Marvel Studios has produced its films under the vision of president Kevin Feige. But sources also say Warners still wants to remain filmmaker-driven. As part of their new jobs, Berg and Johns will become producers on the Justice League movies.

Fox's Lethal Weapon Television Reboot Official Trailer

Combining action and drama with friendship and humor, LETHAL WEAPON reboots the hit movie franchise, as it follows classic cop duo Riggs and Murtaugh, who are working a crime-ridden beat in modern-day Los Angeles.

Grief-stricken after the loss of his young wife and unborn child, ex-Navy SEAL-turned-detective MARTIN RIGGS (Clayne Crawford, “Rectify”) moves to California to “start over” at the LAPD. He’s paired up with ROGER MURTAUGH (Emmy Award nominee Damon Wayans, Sr., “My Wife and Kids,” “In Living Color”), who’s just coming back to the job after a near-fatal heart attack. Riggs’ penchant for diving headfirst into the line of fire immediately clashes with Murtaugh’s prudent, by-the-book technique. It’s clear from the moment they meet, this partnership could be lethal. But during their first case together, Riggs drags Murtaugh on a high-speed chase culminating inside the Long Beach Grand Prix and into a seaport shootout with drug dealers – and despite his protests, the older cop feels more alive than he has in years. Meanwhile, Riggs gets a glimpse of why Murtaugh is so determined to get home safely at the end of each day – he’s got a family and a newborn baby of his own. By the time their investigation ends, Riggs realizes he may have found something worth living for – a partner and friend like Murtaugh. And even Murtaugh figures this arrangement might just work out after all. If only Riggs doesn’t get them killed first…

With cutting-edge technology created by Gideon himself, this eccentric yet brilliant outsider challenges the city’s police force to rethink everything about the way they fight crime. But the near-overnight transition to the city’s most advanced police district doesn’t sit well with all of its members. Gideon knows if he’s going to change anything, he needs an ally, whom he finds in OFFICER THERESA MURPHY (Natalie Martinez, “Kingdom,” “Under the Dome”), an ambitious, street-smart cop who is ready to embrace Gideon’s technological changes. With the help of Gideon’s gifted tech officer, ADA HAMILTON (Caitlin Stasey “Reign”), he and Murphy embark on a mission to turn the 13th District – including a skeptical SGT. NED CONRAD (Ernie Hudson, “Grace and Frankie,” “Ghostbusters”), and determined OFFICERS NICHOLAS BRANDT (Taylor Handley “Vegas,” “Southland”) and TASHA GOSS (Tamberla Perry “Boss”) – into a dedicated crime-fighting force of the 21st century.

In the thrilling new event series PRISON BREAK, original series stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Rockmond Dunbar and Paul Adelstein are reunited for an all-new adventure spanning the globe and featuring the signature thrills and cliffhangers that were hallmarks of the original series when it aired on FOX from 2005-2009. The original action drama centered on MICHAEL SCOFIELD (Miller, “The Loft”), a young man determined to save his convicted brother, LINCOLN BURROWS (Purcell, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”), from death row by hatching an elaborate plan to escape from prison. In the all-new event series, filmed on location in Morocco, clues surface that suggest a previously thought-to-be-dead Michael may be alive.

The original producing team, including series creator Paul T. Scheuring, Neal Moritz, Marty Adelstein and Dawn Olmstead, will return to executive-produce the new series, with Scheuring serving as showrunner/writer.

Official Trailer for 24: LEGACY

The clock ticks again with 24: LEGACY, the next evolution of the Emmy Award-winning “24.” From Emmy Award-winning executive producer Howard Gordon (“Homeland,” “24: Live Another Day”), Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning executive producer Brian Grazer (“A Beautiful Mind,” “24”), writers and executive producers Manny Coto and Evan Katz (“24,” “24: Live Another Day”), director and executive producer Stephen Hopkins (“24”) and executive producer and original series star Kiefer Sutherland, 24: LEGACY chronicles an adrenaline-fueled race against the clock to stop a devastating terrorist attack on United States soil – in the same real-time format that has propelled this genre-defining series.

Six months ago in Yemen, an elite squad of U.S. Army Rangers, led by Sergeant ERIC CARTER (Corey Hawkins, “Straight Outta Compton”), killed terrorist leader Sheik Ibrahim Bin-Khalid. In the aftermath, Bin-Khalid’s followers declared a fatwah against Carter, his squad and their families, forcing them into federal witness protection. But a recent attempt on Carter’s own life makes it clear to him that his team is now exposed. To thwart further attacks, Carter enlists REBECCA INGRAM (Miranda Otto, “Homeland”), who quarterbacked the raid that killed Bin-Khalid. She’s a brilliant and ambitious intelligence officer who has stepped down from her post as National Director of CTU to support her husband, SENATOR JOHN DONOVAN (Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Jimmy Smits, “NYPD Blue,” “The West Wing”), in his campaign for President of the United States. Decades of sleepless nights and missed anniversaries landed her at the top. With the White House within their grasp, can she truly embrace a new role as First Lady? Or will her love of the action draw her back in? Together, in this fast-paced thrill ride, Carter and Ingram uncover a sophisticated terrorist network that will force them to ask: “Who can we trust?” As they battle Bin-Khalid’s devotees, they are forced to confront their own identities, families and pasts.

Bryan Singer Wants Female Wolverine X-23 in X-Force Film

20th Century Fox is moving forward with its long-awaited X-Force film, and X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer has shed some light on what direction the movie may take in regards to Wolverine.

In an interview with Erik Davis at Fandango, Singer confirmed that he's discussed with the studio what will happen with Wolverine after Hugh Jackman retires the claws for good, and even suggested featuring Logan's female clone X-23 in Fox's X-Force film. "I actually initially pitched the X-Force and the female," he said.

While Singer was careful to note that he's currently only involved at the idea level, he did confirm that X-Force "is in the earliest script stage" at the hands of X-producer Simon Kinberg, adding, "so that's kind of where that stands, and we'll see how it evolves." Once he finishes with Apocalypse, Singer is focusing on his next film -- a new version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea -- for now.

Nintendo is Ready to Make Movies Again

Considering the current movie landscape and the fact that Nintendo has hit a rough patch, it would seem only natural that the company, with its wealth of colorful and iconic characters, would expand into the movie business. In fact, they're planning on doing just that to aid in future growth.

Although Nintendo has licensed its characters in the past, it's now thinking about making its own film content. Makoto Wakae, the company spokesman, said on Monday that there are no set details so far, but the projects might be released in theaters or on DVD.

Nintendo hopes to invest in film making with the proceeds received from selling its stake in the Seattle Mariners MLB team, though it probably won't become a full-fledged film studio. Reportedly, Nintendo is speaking with various film companies regarding a possible partnership and that the work they produce may involve 3D animation.

Kevin Smith In Talks with MGM to Adapt ‘The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai’ For TV

On his Hollywood Babble-On podcast, Kevin Smith briefly stopped talking about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to discuss all the opportunities he's received since directing an episode of CW's The Flash. "I've never f*cking done anything in my life that had more people saying, holy sh*t, good job," he said. "Like 22-year career, man. Not even in the beginning, when they liked me and sh*t." That episode has opened up some "weird doors," including a meeting with MGM about turning The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension into a television series. The 1984 Peter Weller-starring film, which defies any simple genre classification (it's a science fiction comedy drama romance adventure thriller), is one of Smith's favorites, and "one of the reasons why I make f*cked up movies and can't be like J.J. [Abrams] and sh*t."

MGM executives wanted to know if Smith had any ideas on how to turn Buckaroo into a TV show. Boy did he! "Basically you just do the entire movie for season one, then season two you finally do the sequel we've all dreamed about, Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League." (The credits mention the sequel, but it was never made.) Apparently, MGM liked what Smith pitched (I imagine hockey jerseys and Johnny Depp were involved) because next month, "we take it out and try to find a home for it."

Harley Quinn / Batgirl / Birds of Prey Movie in the Works at Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. is already proving to be ahead of the curve by having next year's Wonder Woman serve as the first female-led superhero movie of the modern, post-Iron Man era, and now the studio has yet another female-centric superhero film in the works. Per THR, Warner Bros. is developing a film revolving around Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn character from the upcoming Suicide Squad, as well as a number of other female heroes and villains. So while Robbie's Harley Quinn sounds like she'll be the anchor for the feature, this may not exactly be a Harley Quinn movie per se.

Robbie is attached to star in and produce the picture, which is being kept under firm wraps as THR couldn't even find out who's penning the script beyond the revelation that the project has a female writer onboard. In addition to the villainous Harley Quinn, other characters are expected to get the spotlight, with Batgirl and Birds of Prey bandied about as possibilities.

Apparently Robbie was the impetus for getting this project off the ground, as she grew to love a number of DC characters during her comics research for the role of Harley Quinn. She found a writer and brought the project to Warner Bros., which immediately sparked to the idea of spinning off the Harley Quinn character into a female-centric DC Extended Universe film.

‘The Angry Birds Movie’ Launches with $43M, ‘Jungle Book’ Is India’s Biggest Hollywood Film Ever

Rovio's The Angry Birds Movie won't arrive in the U.S. until next weekend, but it launched this weekend in 74 international markets with $43 million.

The figure represents a little less than two-thirds of its global footprint. The movie, directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, opened in first place in about half of its markets, with Russian moviegoers delivering the biggest share with $5.7 million.

While the film was produced by Sony Pictures Imageworks and is being distributed by Sony, the bulk of the investment came from Finnish game maker Rovio, which has bet its future on the success of this film. It's still too early to tell if Rovio's gamble will pay off based on these first weekend numbers.

Along with its U.S. release, The Angry Birds Movie opens in China and South Korea next weekend.

Disney's The Jungle Book passed $800m in global gross, making it the fifth-highest-grossing live-action film the studio has released.

‘MacGyver’ and ‘Training Day’ Shows Ordered by CBS

CBS has ordered 'MacGyver' and 'Training Day' to Series

Wentworth Miller Signs First "Berlantiverse" Deal With Warner Bros. TV

Deadline reports that Wentworth Miller will no longer be a series regular on DC's Legends of Tomorrow starting with the show's second season, but he will instead fluctuate between all of The CW DC shows as Leonard Snart, aka Captain Cold.

"We always knew that he wouldn't be a permanent member of The Waverider," executive producer Greg Berlanti said. "We also knew we loved him on the show and all the shows, Flash as well… (He) won't be part of the team of Legends on board of The Waverider next year, but he will have a very active role on the show."

The new deal with Warner Bros. TV is the first for an actor to play one character across multiple shows, but may not be the last.

ABC cancels Marvel's Agent Carter

After just two seasons, ABC has decided to cancel Agent Carter, citing rating problems as the main point of concern, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Despite the critical praise the show received and its dedicated fanbase, the series was only drawing in 4.3 million viewers (which included those who recorded an episode and watched it at a later time or date) and a 1.9 in the ratings. Both of these numbers are extremely low in comparison to Marvel's other big show on ABC, Agents of Shield.

ABC has also passed on Marvel's Most Wanted.

It's Official: Supergirl flies over to CW for Season 2

Supergirl has been renewed for Season 2, but the show is moving from CBS to the CW.

THR reported news of the renewal and move, which confirms recent reports that such a network switch was being discussed. The CW --- which is co-owned by CBS and Warner Bros., who produce Supergirl -- already is the home to The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow (all, like Supergirl, executive produced by Greg Berlanti). In a rare cross-network crossover, The Flash recently appeared on Supergirl for a highly rated episode.

For that crossover story, the Flash traversed the multiverse to team up with Supergirl, who exists in a parallel universe - something that will no doubt need to be addressed when we see, presumably, more crossovers between the shows next year, now that they are on the same network.

Studio Update From Mike Shinoda on New Linkin Park Album

Hey!

First of all, thanks for letting us send you emails. I don't think we've said that before, and it's worth saying outright. I hope our notes to you are fun to read, and give you a peek into our process. As things move forward, you might be the first ones to learn about certain parts of the album. Not sure what that means yet—could be a song title, a lyric, who knows.

We just started narrowing down to some of our favorite songs, and we're starting to put our first "final" vocals on them. As I listen through them, I feel like these songs are really personal and revealing. We have really poured our hearts into the words and melodies, and it's starting to show as we approach recording the "keeper" vocals.

With that said, we've got a lot of material to choose from, and decided to get votes from all six of the guys in the band, to see which songs are rising to the top. We clearly have an album in there. We're looking forward to getting the vocals right, and starting to put sounds on them.  Keyboards/samples and drums are high on the list…but first, we're going to get some of these vocals nailed down.

More to come…
- Mike (with Brad and Chester looking over my shoulder at this email. They say "hi" by the way)
That was the news sent to members of the Linkin park email list today! Thanks for stopping by.
