Pirates Love Star Trek
According to the TrekMovie.com, J.J. Abrams Star Trek film was the top pirated movie of 2009, and here are excerpts of their report.
Star Trek topped a list of films compiled by the Web site TorrentFreak.com, which tracks the file-sharing program BitTorrent. According to that list, Star Trek was downloaded close to 11 million times, and other blockbusters dominated the chart: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was No. 2, with 10.6 million downloads; X-Men Origins Wolverine was No. 9, with 7.2 million downloads.
According to TrekMovie, this piracy has not gone without notice at Paramount. Last month the studio reported to the FCC that it had tracked more than five million IP addresses that downloaded one of six camcorded copies of the movie over the Summer. You can read the entire Paramount letter to the FCC here.
